Muckle's commercial team volunteering

Stacking shelves and packing food parcels for families in need was the order of the day for lawyers in our commercial team who volunteered at Newcastle West End Foodbank last week.

Led by team head Alex Craig and partner Alison Walton, who is also a trustee of the charity, the team spent last Thursday in the warehouse at Newburn Riverside sorting piles of donations ready for distribution in the local area.

Alison said: “Thursdays are corporate days at the food bank, when teams of volunteers from local businesses come to lend a hand. As fast as the donations come in, the supplies come off the shelf again to fill up food parcels for the local community so it’s a fast-paced day, but really fulfilling.”

As part of the firm’s environmental, social and governance (ESG) strategy, members of staff are empowered to take time out to volunteer in the local community, giving back in line with our core value of ‘care.’

Alex, Alison and members of the commercial team Robin Adams, Sharon Stafford, Rhiannon Hastings, Anna Douglas and Tom Justice used a volunteering day to work alongside the charity’s regular volunteers to unload donations and fill boxes ready for the weekly food package delivery to more than 500 local homes.

Committed to helping govern the charity in her role as a trustee for the foodbank, Alison is also in admiration of the volunteers making the distribution centre a success.

She commented: “The food bank runs a huge but very well-organised operation thanks to the team of dedicated volunteers who come every week and keep everything going. It’s really humbling to see what they do every day to help local families who depend on the foodbank for help.

“The charity relies on people who commit to donate their time. Every pair of hands that’s offered is put to work.”
