The law hasn’t always been Alan’s true calling in life. In fact before studying and training to be a lawyer he actually completed an apprenticeship and worked for seven years as an upholsterer.
Since 2007, however, Alan has been a part of the fabric at Muckle, where more recently he has worked on a three-year secondment to a regional university as their interim Head of the Legal team. This in-house role has enabled Alan to build specialist sector skills, as well as an understanding and appreciation of specific education arrangements, including grant funding, knowledge transfer, research and collaboration projects, employer engagement and service provision.
Alan also has experience of a diverse range of commercial contracts, such as franchise arrangements, applications and terms for grant and research body funding, intellectual property issues (particularly in relation to multi-party collaborations), confidentiality, information security and freedom of information.
And should you be lucky enough to have him working with you, you’ll find that rising to the challenge of dealing with complex arrangements, analysing and synthesising often competing issues to provide pragmatic advice, and adding value for our clients are all things that Alan genuinely enjoys.
