Environmental, Social and Governance
Everyone has a stake in the future of our planet, and we're no different. And we know we have a responsibility to invest and commit to reducing our environmental impact continuously.
What does ESG mean to Muckle?
Senior Partner Hugh Welch explains why having an Environmental, Social and Governance framework in place is so important to everyone at Muckle LLP.

We work hard to ensure we’re recycling, reducing and offsetting our carbon footprint and we’re always looking at ways to take our ‘E’ journey to the next level. Here are just some of the things we’re doing to reduce our environmental impact.
Find out more about the kind of work we do in our B Corp report 2024.
Recycling
From our old office furniture, work mobile phones and laptops to using recycled material in our office carpets, we try our best to recycle what we can.
Our last crisp packet recycling campaign was a hit (but highlighted the fact we eat a lot!).
None of our waste goes to landfill, and working with local Terracycle outlets helps with internal engagement giving our people knowledge of what and how we can recycle more.
Reducing
We encourage our people to use sustainable transport wherever possible. This ranges from our cycle-to-work scheme (we have office shower rooms and bike storage facilities), EV pool cars and discounted rates for public transport.
In recent years we've reduced our paper usage by 59% and gas usage by 24% and we’re on track to be net-zero by 2030.
Offsetting
By analysing our carbon emissions across energy, resources and travel usage, we are able to offset our carbon footprint. The offset calculation has allowed us to give back to Tyne Rivers Trust, Scotswood Community Garden and donate to beach clean projects.
We're ISO14001:2015 Environmental Management System (EMS) accredited and our cross-firm Green Team work on projects focused on reducing our impact on the environment each year. Check out our Environmental Policy and Objectives Statement and speak to Debbie McCormack for more information on our environmental performance.
