Muckle LLP helps Widernet complete strategic acquisition

23rd Jun 2016 | Corporate Finance

We are pleased to announce we have helped London-based internet business Widernet Communications Limited make a commercially strategic acquisition, with the purchase of web development company Pigment Limited.

Acquisition of web and app development

Widernet was established in 1999 and since then has developed and run niche online dating sites, such as the leading Christian dating site, ChristianConnection.com and the popular matchmaking site for graduates, Ivorytowers.net.

Pigment Ltd was established in 2008 by Widernet directors Erica Turner, Jonathan Williams and Sam Oliver, and has worked with clients including EDF Energy, Workhub and Becta over the years.

The team at Pigment developed and maintained the Widernet websites, as well as devising a custom payment system for members and subscribers.

Increased capability

The acquisition of Pigment enables Widernet to bring Pigment's website and app development and support expertise in-house whilst increasing Widernet’s capability to develop its websites and apps further.

Widernet have recently worked closely with Carl Swansbury of Ryecroft Glenton Corporate Finance to strategically plan for the business, and we advised Widernet on this particularly strategic acquisition.

Smooth transaction

Associate Solicitor, Adam Rayner, of the Corporate Finance Team at Muckle LLP led the transaction, and was supported by Associate Solicitor, Frances Cameron, on the Employment Law aspects.  The transaction was overseen by Partner, Philip Clare.

Adam said: “It was great to complete this first transaction with Widernet and to get to know the team there a lot more.

Widernet director Erica Turner, added: “We are delighted with the way in which the transaction ran and are grateful to Adam and the team for their support".
