We’re delighted to have been named ‘Community Business of the Year’ at the North East Chamber of Commerce Business Awards 2023.

The award, which recognises organisations that facilitate, participate and enable community engagement, was given for our community work, including our grant giving through The Muckle Fund at The Community Foundation and was presented by category sponsor Society Matters.

Senior partner Hugh Welch, who heads up our environmental, social and governance (ESG) programme said: “We’re so pleased to win this award as it recognises all the hard work our people put in to ensure our local community get the support they need.

“We originally set up our community fund over 20 years ago, and it’s developed into so much more. Our grant-giving activities are supported by pro bono work, volunteering, and the work our Green Team does to encourage environmental awareness.

"It was inspiring to hear about the contribution all the nominees have made to our community and fantastic to see that so many local businesses are putting the principles of ESG at the heart of every decision.”

It was the latest of several community awards we’ve received over the years, including being recognised five times in the ‘Heart of the Community’ category at the North East Business Award and being shortlisted for ‘CSR Team of the Year’ at the UK Third Sector Business Charity Awards, alongside household names ITV and Aviva.

Congratulations to The Skill Mill and Carney Consultancy Ltd who were also shortlisted in this category.

We were also shortlisted in the category of 'Larger Firm of the Year'.
