After originally graduating from Oxford University with a degree in English Literature and Language, Luke joined Thames Valley Police where he worked for seven years across a variety of roles. Two years as a detective working closely with solicitors helped Luke decide to return to the North to retrain, studying the GDL and LPC at Northumbria University.
His first impression of Muckle was of a firm that really cared for its employees. The emphasis on encouraging people to ‘be themselves’ really sets Muckle apart and from the first interview, he says, people clearly wanted him to do well and give him the chance to show what he could do. It’s something that has carried on into the training contract, where Trainees are given great support in a famously friendly environment.
It was Muckle’s reputation as a thriving and successful commercial law firm that really sold it to Luke, something that goes hand in hand with the firm’s values and culture. The chance to work across four seats and get to know an area in detail really appealed. Currently in his third seat, Luke gets the chance to work with lawyers from the Dispute Resolution team, providing him with a wide range of experience that helps him constantly learn and develop and a hugely rewarding breadth of work.
When he’s not in the office, Luke spends much of his time watching football and rugby union and can often be found climbing in the Lake District at the weekend when not supporting his beloved Carlisle United.
