Muckle supports 1st Lemington Scouts on their way to their first international trip
We’re always proud to support charities and community organisations in the North East, and grant-funding is just one of the ways we can help make a positive impact.
We recently supported Newcastle-based 1st Lemington Scout Group with a £1,300 grant towards their first-ever international trip. Chartered Legal Executive in our real estate dispute resolution team, Claire Richmond, nominated the group for the grant as it supported her three nieces and two nephews for many years, helping them build friendships and valuable life skills.
Once-in-a-lifetime
The group hopes to embark on its first international trip to Switzerland, providing a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for its young people. For many, this will mark their first time abroad.
Alongside the wider Scouts team, Scout Patrol Leaders for the visit – Matthew Warkman, Rebecca Douglas and Zoe Armstrong and Scout Leader for the visit, Andrew Warkman, are aiming to raise £15,600 to help fund the group's journey to the world-renowned Kandersteg International Scout Centre in Switzerland.
From Newcastle, for Newcastle
Based in the North East, 1st Lemington Scout Group provides vital support to young people aged 10-18, many faced with social and economic barriers that limit their access to opportunities. During their time with 1st Lemington Scout Group, they build skills for life, and develop their confidence, independence, teamwork and leadership capabilities.
The group believes that ‘postcodes shouldn't define a young person's horizons’, and that the trip will be an unforgettable experience, helping young people to unlock their potential.
Empowering through opportunity
In the heart of the Swiss Alps, the group of 24 young people aged 12-18 will have the chance to connect with the wider international Scouts community, create friendships and build self-belief through a range of alpine activities.
Scout Patrol Leader Zoe Armstrong shared "We’re all really looking forward to all the inspiring experiences and opportunities the trip will provide. It’s so important to empower our Scouts with this chance to experience a global community.”
Investing in long-term aspirations
Without the backing of grant funding and donations, 1st Lemington Scouts group wouldn’t be able to provide the life-changing experiences it does for its young people. This next big fundraising goal is no exception, aiming to support parents in covering the £1,300 fee per Scout. It’s not just about funding the trip; it’s about removing financial barriers and investing in the long-term aspirations of talented young people.
Over the last few months, Andrew, the wider team and the Scouts have been working tirelessly, hosting coffee mornings, raffles, tombola, bake sales and more to raise money and connect with the local community.
Andrew said “Kind donations and grant-funding like our recent grant from Muckle means the world to us and we’re all looking forward to an unforgettable trip. Our young people have been working so hard to make this trip possible, and for many of them, this trip truly means everything, marking their first ever trip abroad.”
Emmy Amers-Dodd, Group Leader for the visit, said “The money is crucial in helping to make sure that we can make the visit as affordable as possible and inclusive to all. We’re so passionate about supporting our young people and, along with our dedicated volunteers, we want to ensure that our scouts get the very best that scouting has to offer. Our heartfelt thanks again to everyone for helping to ensure that we can do this."
