With over 20 years’ experience as a commercial lawyer in the North East, Robin understands the region’s business and legal landscapes well.
He was educated at Oxford University and Nottingham Law School before returning to his native Newcastle after graduating, where he has worked as a solicitor ever since.
Robin has spent his career advising a range of public bodies on public procurement issues, including choice of procedure, preparing PQQs, SQQs, ITTs and notices. He has dealt with bid clarification and time extensions, scoring and evaluation, and contract award and standstill. Robin has also advised on sub-threshold procurements and has helped write clients’ internal procurement policies.
He has advised grant recipients on the state aid aspects of grant funding and advised other bodies on the state aid implications of public body loans. Robin also advises on a range of competition law issues associated with commercial contracts, applying block exemptions and anti-competitive practices.
In more general areas, Robin also has extensive expertise in corporate transactions, education sector support and commercial contract work, as well as constitutional and governance matters and corporate structures.
Outside his legal career, Robin is a keen runner and wasted no time in joining the Muckle Runners, launching into a training session during his first week with the company. He also swims, enjoys days on the hills in Northumberland or the Lake District with his family and skiing.
