Much of the employment work which Tony undertakes for our clients is of a highly confidential nature, so although it is exciting and often technically challenging, it unfortunately means we cannot go into details here. What we can tell you, however, is that Tony tends to get involved when expertise is required for more complex proceedings involving the High Court, County Court and employment tribunal claims, including judicial review, injunctions, whistle-blowing and discrimination.
One client we can mention is Rafa Benitez. Tony advised the former Champions’ League-winning manager in contractual negotiations surrounding his departure from Liverpool FC after five years in charge of the Anfield outfit. It perhaps speaks volumes that Rafa chose to instruct Tony in preference to the League Managers’ Association and Tony managed the Spaniard’s exit which led to him moving on to manage Serie A champions, Inter Milan.
Truth be known, football isn’t actually Tony’s first sporting love. In fact he has spent most of his free time over the past couple of decades watching, playing and coaching rugby. It is, he believes, a great sport which allows kids to develop many of the tools they need in life, and for several years Tony was chairman of Northern Rugby Mini and Youth Rugby and received the Northumberland County RFU ‘doing my bit’ award for volunteers.
