A specialist in real estate law, Richard spends much of his working life drafting and negotiating real estate documents, including agreements, transfers leases, licenses, transfers and site infrastructure documentation. By its nature, this involves him helping education sector clients by explaining the implications of legal concepts in an understandable manner.
It is, he believes, good to be involved with schools and universities that are spread across the country because the work is so varied. Richard has advised a London-based university on its estate management and lettings work, relating to people using its campus and putting in place tax efficient structures between its holding and operating companies. Currently he is working with a number of local authorities and schools on the property aspects of conversion to academy status, which includes matters such as land ownership, site inspections and preparation of the necessary lease and other documents. This is the kind of work, Richard says, that indicates the dynamism and ability of the Muckle team’s expertise to provide an excellent service to clients.
Outside of work Richard spends most of his time with his wife and two young sons, cajoling, pulling and carrying them up hill and down dale in the wilds of Northumberland and Cumbria.
