Muckle LLP Appoints National Expert to Build Its Construction Team
Leading North East commercial law firm Muckle LLP has significantly strengthened its capabilities by hiring Rob Langley, national figurehead in the construction and engineering fields, as a partner to build its construction team.
Highly experienced in commercial dispute resolution and the handling of construction contracts, Rob was previously the senior partner at Watson Burton. He is one of the region's leading mediators, and has handled over 140 mediations – from hospital projects to industrial plants, and from commercial fraud to intellectual property disputes and many other problem contracts. At Muckle LLP, Rob will take on the growth of the firm's construction practice.
Rob said: I have always been based in the region, but worked very much on the national stage and will be continuing this national focus at Muckle. Muckle LLP is a modern, very progressive firm and I want to not only make the team one of the top 15 construction teams in England, but also the region’s law firm of choice for dispute resolution.
I will be working closely with construction partner Tim Craig to take the team forward, along with four other excellent colleagues. My overall objective is to promote further growth and make Muckle a major player in the specialist fields of construction and engineering “however, I will also be bringing my experience in the energy sector to the table."
Rob has led on many multi-million pound cases over the past 25 years, including the £250m construction contracts for the MetroCentre and contractual advice on a number of North Sea oil rigs. He also recently acted as legal counsel for the design and build contractor on the £100m Lakeside Energy from Waste plant at Heathrow.
Rob is also a Member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators’ prestigious panel of specialist construction adjudicators. Muckle LLP's Adjudication Service has already pioneered new methods of legal funding such as offering fees on a contingency basis, fixed fee packages and providing access to specialist service providers to support the process; Rob's experience will complement this.
From the North East originally, Rob grew up in Wallsend before gaining a scholarship to read Law at the University of Oxford. After initially becoming a barrister, he became increasingly interested in commercial law, finding it extremely rewarding and an area where he could make a real difference to clients.
