Solar power storage project fires up

8th Jun 2019 | Energy

UK large scale solar electricity developer Hive Energy is working with CellCube and Imersa to develop grid scale solar electricity storage projects. Once delivered, the developments will provide green peak power and reserve capacity that should help to provide electricity with lower carbon dioxide emissions.

The consortium points to the recent de-rating methodologies, adopted for UK solar and short duration electricity storage, as an opportunity for long duration battery storage. The consortium, known as HICC Energy, will use CellCube’s long duration Vanadium Redox Flow Batteries and the group are expecting their first project to be operating later this year.

Energy expert view

“This is an interesting development, particularly if it signals a move to longer period electricity storage at grid scale coming forward more quickly.” Alastair Fells MEI, Incorporated Eng, PG Dip Fuel Tech, BSc Hons
