Zero Hours Consultation

1st Feb 2014 | Employment

Last year much was written and said about the use and abuse of ‘zero hour’ contracts. This has led to the Department for Business Innovation and Skills (BIS) to announce a consultation on this matter. The government wants to “maximise the opportunities of zero hours contracts while minimising abuse and setting out core standards that protect individuals”. One particular issue the government wants comments on is the use of exclusivity clauses in contracts, i.e. clauses preventing zero hour employees from working for other possible employers despite having no guaranteed hours.

If you want to comment on the issues or provide evidence you have until on 13 March 2014 to do so.
