Yahoops?

23rd Sep 2016 | Commercial Law

It is bad news for Yahoo as it is now confirmed they have been hacked and 500 million users’ account details have been stolen.

Yahoo are yet to confirm which country they think is responsible for the hack, but the FBI are investigating the allegations of a 'state hacker'.

The hack actually took place back in 2014, which is raising many an eyebrow across the globe. Back in August, a hacker that goes by the name of 'Peace' was allegedly attempting to sell information on 200 million Yahoo accounts. It turns out the extent of the hack is much greater at 500 million.

The advice is – change your passwords! Fortunately, it is believed that bank details are safe. However, the bigger question for Yahoo is why is has taken so long to confirm the hack and provide advice to account holders who are affected by it. It also appears as though Verizon, who bought Yahoo back in July for a whopping $4.8 billion, were also unaware of the hack.

So Ya-hoo, is to blame? We don't know yet, but Yahoo have some serious work to do!
