Teesside petrochemicals firm upgrades

1st Jun 2017 | Energy

Teesside based petrochemicals firm Sabic has upgraded its ‘cracker’ unit to take ethane as a feedstock (as well as naptha, propane, butane and condensates). The enhancement makes the plant one of the most flexible in Europe and provides insulation against a changing energy market.

Collaboration with a shipping company means shipments from Houston to Sabic Teesside will be 30% larger than rival company Ineos at Grangemouth, helping to reduce costs. Sabic produces plastics and packaging for the food and automotive sectors. The improvement has safeguarded around 1000 jobs.
