Residents fight the power

18th Nov 2016 | Energy

Plans to build a new controversial power generation facility at Thorpe Thewles, near Stockton, have led to complaints from local residents. The council received dozens of objections from people concerned about the potential noise, fumes and impact on the environment.

The facility which aims to deliver electricity to the UK during peak demand will include 33 exhaust stacks and provide backup power for up to 50,000 homes.

Local MP Alex Cunningham has organised a public meeting with councilors and representatives from Stratera Energy, the company behind the proposals. He said: “I have received more objections to this project than any other over the last six years.”
