North East firm Nortech Solutions wins USA fracking work

25th Nov 2014 | Energy

Teesside entrepreneur, Bryan Bunn, leads one of the first North East businesses to win work in the American shale gas industry.

Nortech provides engineering design and project management services to the oil and gas, chemical, and iron and steel industries. The US shale gas market is opening new opportunities for the business.

Nortech won its first contract from Pittsburgh a year ago, to supply engineering design support for a new compressor station to support shale gas recovery in Pennsylvania. This has laid the foundations for further work and the business now has further contacts in the pipeline.

The centre of gas processing in Pennsylvania is Pittsburgh. This former steel town has plenty of design and engineering skills of its own as a result of the steel industry. Gas processing expertise is slowly catching up but US companies are seeking skills from outside the US for higher end process and technical engineering.

Managing Director, Bryan Bunn explained: “The Marcellus shale gas market in Pennsylvania and Utica market in Ohio are ideal for our expertise in processing hydrocarbons. A significant volume of the gas in these fields is wet and rich in hydrocarbons and this fits in with our proven experience in the petro chemical sector where we have designed processing plants to deal with a mixture of hydrocarbons from the same source materials.”

Nortech Solutions has grown rapidly since its launch in 2012 and now employs 80 people with annual revenues of £8.9m.
