Free places and discounts for club runners in M2N road races

31st Mar 2017 | England Athletics

England Athletics club runners get a £3 entrance discount for the Morpeth to Newcastle Road Race (M2N) this October, and every England Athletics affiliated club is entitled to four free places. These perks were secured by Muckle LLP, England Athletics' legal helpline provider, which is sponsoring the event again this year and advising on organising the races.

Race by numbers

2:38 – last year’s marathon winning time to beat

2,000 plus - runners and cyclists took part in 2016

4 races – a marathon, 26-mile cycle sportive, half marathon and mini mile for kids

Olympic effort

The original event began in 1904, which makes M2N the oldest road race in England. Olympic gold medallist Jonathan Edwards CBE has teamed up with organisers to officially launch this year’s races.

“The Morpeth to Newcastle Marathon is still held in high regard by the running population of the UK. The race regularly attracted Olympians, world record holders and running legends, so I am hoping to see some very good club runners, athletes and keen fitness enthusiasts take part this year.” Jonathan Edwards CBE

M2N will host four road races over Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 October.

Marathon: Morpeth to Newcastle

Start on the outskirts of the historic Northumberland market town of Morpeth. Follow a route that takes in the beautiful Northumberland Coast and then along the River Tyne. Newcastle Quayside is your landmark final destination.

Fast Flat Half Marathon: North Tyneside to Newcastle

The club runners’ chance to clock a personal best on a fast course. It starts on the coastal town of Whitley Bay, next to the redeveloped Spanish City, before you head west, along the river to Newcastle Quayside.

Mini Mile: Kids to Newcastle

Taking part on Saturday the day before the senior event, junior runners cross the same finish line in the Mini Mile as the senior runners. It means the next generation can join in the M2N celebrations too.

Marathon Cycle Challenge

The marathon cycle challenge rides through 26 miles. Ideal for a fun, but challenging, ride.

All England Athletics' clubs will receive four free entries and any additional runners can take advantage of £3 off the cost of their entrance. Running clubs can also take advantage of a free traffic management course and access to water station gazebos.
