Housing data safely: Supporting housing association with GDPR compliance

In 2018, Karbon approached us to support it on its journey to GDPR implementation (the new data protection legislation introduced from Europe) and beyond due the very customer focused nature of its organisation and the volume of personal data it handles.

The challenge

Karbon Homes is the name for the amalgamation of Cestria, Isos and Derwentside and is a large housing association.

In 2018, Karbon approached us to support it on its journey to GDPR implementation (the new data protection legislation introduced from Europe) and beyond due the very customer focused nature of its organisation and the volume of personal data it handles.

The solution

We worked and continued to work closely with the data protection team at Karbon to put in place GDPR compliant documentation required under the legislation by setting up a manageable monthly retainer arrangement with them.

As we then moved into a post-Brexit period and the data protection regime developed, Karbon maintained their arrangement with the firm and we continued to support them into 2022 with a range of documentation and advice on a breadth of data protection challenges ranging from supporting with subject access requests, data protection impact assessments, to creating bespoke contract documents to reflect the organisation's data protection arrangements with third parties.

The impact

Karbon has been able to support its data protection team with an external sounding board to debate issues, seek additional resource where deadlines have loomed and clear advice on more tricky data issues. A very close and open working relationship has developed and our quick response times has meant that the team have been able to rely on us to get on with the job in hand.
