Managing SEN issues in schools: the practicalities and a legal perspective

Join us for this session where our education team will talk though some of the common issues facing schools in relation to SEN, the legal risks and how to manage them.

The number of pupils requiring support with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) is growing. Schools and trusts are facing increasing demands to support pupils with SEND. In light of these increasing demands, it is important for schools and trusts to be aware of their key duties.

On Thursday 7 May, Joanne Davison, partner, and Anna Glover, solicitor, both in our education team, will be hosting a webinar to highlight the key considerations for schools and trusts in relation to pupils with SEND.

What’s in store…

In this free legal overview, our experts will discuss the key issues and duties relating to schools and trusts and provide practical tips and takeaways.

They’ll also delve into the anticipated changes expected in light of the government’s white paper, "Every Child Achieving and Thriving” which outlines the government’s plans for educational reform in the sector.

We'll cover...

The key duties of schools for pupils with SEN and disabilities, including:

  • a brief overview of the EHCP process;
  • schools’ and trusts’ duties to disabled pupils under the Equality Act 2010 including the types of discrimination;
  • a brief overview of claims brought in the First-Tier Tribunal (Special Educational Needs and Disability);
  • looking to the future and changes in the sector - key takeaways from the government’s white paper – “Every child achieving and thriving”

Who should attend?

This training session is aimed at all trustees, chief executives, special educational needs coordinators (SENCOs), headteachers and other senior leaders of schools and trusts.
