Office Administrative Assistant, Cumbria

  • Type: non-legal

About this vacancy

The role

We’re looking for a professional, friendly, and highly organised Office Administrator to support our Cumbria office. This is a fully office-based role, ideal for someone who enjoys helping others, takes pride in their work, and is keen to develop their skills.

This role involves providing professional front-of-house support by handling incoming calls, welcoming visitors, and preparing meeting rooms and refreshments. You will carry out a variety of administrative tasks such as photocopying, scanning, printing, filing, ordering stationery, and supporting basic office equipment maintenance. Responsibilities also include managing all incoming and outgoing post, liaising with courier services, assisting with archiving and records retrieval, and helping to maintain a tidy and well-organised office environment. You will offer general support to staff and clients, arrange meetings, and assist with business development events, while maintaining confidentiality at all times and being flexible in taking on new tasks as needed.

The successful candidate will have strong communication and organisational skills, proficiency in Microsoft Word and Outlook, and a positive, proactive attitude with a willingness to take on new tasks. It would also be beneficial, though not essential, for you to have basic typing skills and experience using Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.

Our team

The Muckle LLP team is over 190 people strong. Our people are based across our Newcastle, Cumbria and Teesside offices.

This role will help service clients from our Cumbria office located in Penrith. Our Cumbria office serves as a regional base for Muckle, offering a welcoming, rural-Cumbrian setting while delivering the same high-quality, commercial law services for which the firm is nationally respected.

At the Cumbria hub you'll be part of a close-knit team grounded in the firm's broader commitment to professional excellence, personal service and a values-led culture.

Our people and values

Our people are the foundation of our business, and everything we do is underpinned by our four core values:

  • Trust – we trust each other to do the right thing
  • Teamwork – we are one team and work selflessly for each other
  • Responsibility – we are self-starters and take responsibility for how we work together and communicate
  • Care – we care about our people, clients and community

It means, no matter who you speak to, we provide the same excellent service from people who do what they say, on time and on budget, every time. That’s the Muckle way.

Our culture

We want everyone to understand how our business is run and actively encourage our people to get involved. As part of this role, you’ll have the opportunity to represent the Cumbria team on Muckle LLP committees including the Mental Wellbeing Team, BEAM Team, Green Team and D&I group, helping promote integration and collaborative working across the firm.

We are also proud of the communities in which we live and work and give our people many ways to support them.  For example, you could use your two days’ paid volunteering leave to support a local cause you care about or nominate them for a grant from our Muckle Fund at the Community Foundation.

We’ve created a unique and award-winning place to work, consistently recognised for exceptional culture, wellbeing and responsible business standards, including:

  • B Corp Certified™ - the first law firm in the North East and Cumbria to achieve this accreditation, we are leading the charge in ethical and sustainable business practices within our region and it forms the next part of our ESG strategy and continuous improvement
  • Investors In People Platinum award accreditation
  • People and Work Business of the Year for Cumbria 2025
  • Advanced Good Work Pledge
  • North East Business Awards – Best Place to Work (in 2023, 2024 and 2025)
  • North East Chamber of Commerce Inspiring Female Awards – Most Inspiring Employer shortlisted for 4 consecutive years.

We are really proud of the results of our recent Investors In People survey, in which 95% of our people believe Muckle is a great place to work. Our overall survey results place us 6th for law firms globally, across 75 countries.

So how does all that sound? If you’d value working in a friendly, open environment that reflects Cumbria’s welcoming communities and stunning surroundings, this is a great chance to grow your career with a progressive, commercial law firm.
