Charities and Trading

Charities are increasingly looking to trade.  This might be to meet a shortfall in predicted income, or to exploit their expertise commercially, or to provide flexible income for central costs.  Whatever the reason, it is imperative that trustees and senior managers understand the rules around charities and trading so that it can be done in a way that does not risk a charity’s status or tax reliefs.

Why attend?

In this training session, we’ll dispel the myths about charities and trading, with insight from charity specialist solicitors who regularly advise on this topic. We’ll help you:

  • Understand what kinds of trading charities are allowed to do
  • Understand what restrictions there are on trading through real-life case studies
  • Identify if and when you need to consider setting up a trading subsidiary.

Who should attend?

Anyone working in a charity, but in particular, Trustees, Chief Executives, and senior managers.
