Despite being a life-long Manchester United supporter, Anthony knew from the outset that he wanted to work for a law firm based in the North East. And for him, Muckle stood out from the crowd as being a practice that provides a first-rate training contract and truly cares about retaining its trainees year on year.
To start with he worked as a Paralegal based in our Construction and Engineering team, where he soon gained practical experience and developed a clearer understanding of what life within a large commercial law firm is really like. According to Anthony he thoroughly enjoyed his time working in this role and believes the opportunity, prior to the commencement of his training contract here, definitely enabled him to hit the ground running as a Trainee Solicitor.
Profile-building is something else that Anthony reckons his training at Muckle certainly helped with. Not least because the hands-on work that Trainees are given here from day one, together with the way they are encouraged to liaise directly with clients, allows people like himself to establish an external profile really quickly. What’s more, because our work areas are open-plan, Trainees rub shoulders with Solicitors, Associates, Partners and Client Services people alike – nobody is locked away and nobody is unapproachable, which really brings the teams together, prevents too much hierarchy from developing and allows the Trainees to develop their internal profile too. Perhaps best of all, it means they are able to learn from our most experienced people, simply by being around them every day.
When he isn’t improving his professional skills Anthony can usually be found developing his athletic skills. He also loves being in the gym, has finished the Great North Run in 1 hour 50 minutes and despite supporting the wrong United (the Manchester variety, that is), he’s no slouch on the football pitch either.
