The Grenfell Tower tragedy in 2017 was the catalyst for the conversation on reform of fire safety in high rise buildings. It revealed failings in Building Regulations.
The Government has been slow to address this. On the horizon in 2021 we have two draft pieces of legislation:
- Building Safety Bill
- Fire Safety Bill
In this session we will be joined by Lucilla Waugh and Adam Aston, partners in our Construction team. They will take you through the proposed changes, looking at this from the perspective of those unwittingly caught up in their role as leaseholders and those with landlord obligations to ensure that buildings are compliant.
This proposed legislation will have an impact on those who develop leasehold property, those who live in it and those who manage it. The legislation looks specifically at the necessary fire protection works arising from the installation of unsafe cladding and who is fixed with responsibility.
Anyone who has responsibilities relating to leasehold property would be well advised to get an understanding of the changes proposed.
Who should attend?
Those who deal with leasehold development and management would benefit from attending this session as well as in-house lawyers.
The session will include time for questions and discussion.
