Alex Craig - Partner

Alex is a partner in our commercial team. She joined the firm as a trainee and has developed her career at the firm, being promoted to partner in April 2008. Alex has considerable experience in advising on a variety of contractual arrangements including agency, distribution, supply, terms of trading, framework and collaboration agreements as well as expertise in intellectual property matters including in particular in strategic planning, licensing and exploitation. Alex advises technology companies on exploitation arrangements linked to third party investments as well as advising on data protection and IT. Alex is director and currently chair of ISIS Arts and regularly speaks on intellectual property and technology matters.

How do you see the commercial group developing over the next few years?
Expanding in size, broadening its scope and maintaining its client relationships.
How would you describe your team?
Determined, focused, hard working and great fun.
Why did you become a lawyer?
To work in a respected profession and to work with real people every day.
Why did you choose to work at Muckle LLP?
When I joined, the firm had a reputation for having a strong team and one which had high expectations of its people but who looked after its people.
What has been the most challenging legal deal you've been involved in?
A deal which had an Australian media company on the other side. It was challenging in the main from the point of view of keeping everything moving, whilst working around the time difference and also involved some complex legal issues.
What is the most rewarding aspect of your job?
Helping people achieve their goals.
What's the best piece of advice you've ever had?...and what's the worst?
Best - Get onto the property ladder is the best advice I've had.
Worst - Buy a property to live in as a student - I was in Aberdeen where the property market does not operate the same as elsewhere.
Who or what makes you laugh?
My husband.
Is there anything you'd change about yourself?
Plenty! But nobody is perfect.
What are your personal ambitions?
To be happy.
What is your greatest fear?
Something happening to my eyes (due to a childhood incident!).
Are you a morning or evening person?
Morning.
What do you most enjoy about living in the North East?
The Northumbrian countryside.
What's your most irritating habit?
I'm told I am stubborn!
What would be your dream day?
Skiing.
What's your biggest extravagance?
My wedding dress.
