Professionalism and quality in the private rented sector - 24/06/2009
Introduction
Consultation closes 7 Aug 2009
Summary
Following on from the Law Commission's reports entitled 'Renting Homes' (May 2006) and 'Encouraging Responsible Letting' (Aug 2008), the Department for Communities and Local Government (CLG) has published its response to the Rugg Review examining the private rented sector.
CLG considers that now is not the right time for a fundamental change of tenure arrangements.
CLG is consulting on its long-term strategy for the private rented sector, in which some proposals will require primary legislation to be implemented, while others can be started immediately, such as moves to a more professional sector through measures including more training and better accreditation.
