Equality and diversity
As a firm, we are totally committed to eliminating discrimination and promoting equality and diversity in our policies, practices and procedures and in those areas over which we have influence. This applies to our people, clients, other law firms, barristers, suppliers and third parties.
We have developed a culture and an ethos which recognises and embraces equality and diversity and which is embedded in the firm’s core values.
Our equality and diversity policy is based on the Law Society model anti-discrimination policy. We make sure that our policies contain clear guidance and complaints procedures in relation to behavioural expectations, handling grievances and guidance on how to deal with allegations of bullying and harassment.
We provide a free counselling service to our people via an insurance-backed telephone helpline service. We also operate family-friendly working practices.
All new recruits to the firm are given training on equality and diversity issues as part of their introduction process. We have also successfully completed a training programme on equality and diversity that was devised by eaga plc and delivered to our people via an online learning programme.
We require recruitment agencies to sign up to our equality and diversity policy in relation to how they advertise vacancies within our firm and in relation to how they select candidates for interview and placement.
We were also the winner in the North East Equality Awards for our Outstanding Practice in the Private Sector through our commitment to training and recruitment around our equality and diversity commitment.
Employability project
We have recently established links with Rehab (UK) and the Employability Project and Disability North, giving people with a disability the opportunity to gain work experience to help them improve their confidence and get back into the workplace.
